The Indian Radiological and imaging Association or IRIA, as we know it, which is a sprawling organization today, had a humble beginning in the year of 1937 in the city of joy, i.e., Kolkata. It is through the efforts and initiatives of Dr. Ajit Mohan Basu, Dr. Manik Mukherjee and Dr. Subodh Mitra, the association was formed in the clinic of Dr. S. K. Bhar at 3A Medan Street, Kolkata. In March 1937, the Indian Radiological Association was registered under Act XXI of 1860, with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, Bengal Registration No. 6644 (1936-37) with a total membership strength of 24.

The association observed 1^st CME in 1938 in Kolkata. 1^st Annual state conference was observed in 1946 in Kolkata.

West Bengal Sate Branch boasts to plant and nurture the sapling, which has today become this sprawling organization, i.e. the ‘Indian Radiological and Imaging Association”. It is still striving to hold the flag of IRIA high with best of its efforts.

LONG LIVE IRIA

Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA) promotes the study and practice of diagnostic radiological and imaging modalities including X-ray, ultrasonography, C.T., M.R.I., PET CT and other imaging modalities. IRIA also supports other related subspecialties and super-specialties such as radio-biology, radiation medicine, molecular imaging and interventional radiology.

IRIA's non profitable peer reviewed official journal (IJRI) publishes high quality original research and case reports. The academic wing of IRIA, Indian College of Radiology & Imaging (ICRI) promotes regular academic programmes and activities. IRIA actively holds periodical meetings, CME programmes and conferences on related sub-specialties/super specialties.

At social level, IRIA is working to stop female feticide and actively supports the “Save the Girl Child” initiative by asking all the members of the association to stay away from providing unauthorized training in Ultrasound. Members are also requested to follow the rules and PC & PNDT Act strictly.
